Rehabilitation at Edgewood

The Rehabilitation Department offers Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapy to residents of the Edgewood Retirement Community on an outpatient basis, and to patients of the Meadows Health Center and Garden View on an inpatient basis. Therapy services are delivered in a newly renovated gym, featuring updated equipment and handicap accessible amenities.
Our Occupational Therapists strive to maximize functional independence with activities of daily living, while tailoring each plan of care to meet the specific needs of the patient. Occupational Therapy helps to restore upper body flexibility and strength, improves fine motor coordination, and encourages energy conservation, promoting safety in the home environment. In addition, Occupational Therapy can provide hand therapy, manual treatments and incorporate the use of modalities such as paraffin, ultrasound and moist heat.
Physical Therapy addresses injuries and impairments of the lower body, spine and neck. Our Physical Therapists create unique intervention plans that incorporate the use of therapeutic exercise, dynamic balance activities, massage, instruction in the use of assistive devices (cane, walkers), gait training and modalities. Also, Physical Therapy emphasizes the role of proper posture and body mechanics in not only rehabilitation, but injury and fall prevention. For residents and patients with compromised endurance, our physical therapists offer assistance with appropriate selection of power chairs/scooters.
Speech Therapy offers a wide range of services in order to improve communication and swallowing disorders. Speech therapy services provide consultation on an individual basis and offers support for family/caregivers. Patients can improve their language communication and expression by utilizing specific techniques and retrieval skills.
